You’ve spent your life translating yourself, between cultures, between roles, between who you were and who you’re becoming.
Depth therapy for identity in transition.
Hello there,
I'm Therese Soco, a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) in California and New York, and an out of state telehealth provider in Florida, specializing in identity, culture, and the relationships that shift underneath us during major life transitions.

““We are not here to fit in, be well balanced, or provide exempla for others. We are here to be eccentric, different, perhaps strange, perhaps merely to add our small piece, our little clunky, chunky selves, to the great mosaic of being… we are here to become more and more ourselves.””
Who I Work With
Individuals navigating cultural identity, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns
New mothers renegotiating relationships with their partner, friends, and family
Adults processing intergenerational trauma, including across cultural and generational parenting differences
Individuals in major life transitions: career change, pregnancy and postpartum, parenthood, migration
Couples navigating the shift into parenthood and other major relational shifts
First-generation immigrants and children of immigrants
Anyone feeling caught between two worlds or two versions of themselves
Specializations
I specialize in identity and relationship work during major life transitions, anxiety, depression, grief, postpartum identity shifts, and cross-cultural concerns, with particular attention to intergenerational trauma and how parenthood reshapes the relationships closest to you.
New Motherhood & Relationship Changes
Becoming a mother changes more than your schedule, it also reshapes your partnership, your friendships, and your relationship with your own mother, often alongside grief for who you were before baby. I work individually with mothers making sense of these shifts, and this often runs deeper when motherhood crosses cultures. I'm a Visiting Expert at New Mom School South Bay, where I speak regularly on relationship changes after baby.
Couples Counseling
I also work with couples navigating major life transitions. Couples sessions are self-pay only since most insurance plans require an individual diagnosis for reimbursement, which doesn't apply to relational work (see Fees).
If any of this sounds like where you are right now, I offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation to see if we're a good fit.
My Practice and Services Offered
Virtual Psychotherapy - individuals and couples
I work with adults in individual psychotherapy and couples counseling. My practice is fully remote and sessions are conducted through a HIPAA-compliant video platform.
Walk & Talk Therapy
Therapy doesn't have to happen behind a screen or within four walls.
Walk & Talk therapy is an alternative to traditional individual sessions where we meet in person and conduct our work while walking outdoors such as along a trail, through a park, in the open air. Movement can loosen what stillness sometimes holds tight, and many clients find it easier to access and process difficult feelings when they're in motion and out in nature. I offer these outdoor therapy sessions in the Cupertino area for clients who want to bring more of the body and the natural world into their healing work. This format pairs naturally with depth-oriented, Jungian therapy. There's something about walking that invites reflection, loosens defenses, and opens us to what we might not access sitting still.

My Approach
As a psychotherapist, it’s deeply important to me to create a space where you feel seen, heard, and understood. I believe that a compassionate and attuned relationship can be profoundly healing, especially in the places where you feel stuck.
I work from a relational and psychodynamic orientation, and I pay close attention to how past experiences, family dynamics, cultural context, and unconscious patterns influence your present life. My work is influenced by Jungian psychology, and I enjoy depth-oriented, exploratory work, incorporating techniques such as dream work and active imagination to engage with the unconscious. I also draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and take a mind-body approach, recognizing that emotional insight is often accompanied by the wisdom of the body.
I believe that insight is only the beginning, and that meaningful change happens when reflection is followed by intentional action. I invite clients to not only explore their inner world but to embody that awareness in their daily lives, moving toward a more authentic, integrated, and meaningful way of being.
